public relations for the financial & professional services

How we work

We build communications programmes around what matters most to our clients.
Our approach is simple: understand your goals, identify the themes that matter most, create strong content around them, and deliver it through the right channels with consistency and care.

We combine senior-level advice, clear planning and hands-on delivery. That means clients get a proactive team, high-quality work and a process that is structured without becoming heavy or bureaucratic.

We aim to make the process efficient for clients. We do the preparation, the drafting, the shaping and the coordination, so your time is used where it adds most value.

Our simplified five-point process for PR
1 Agree areas of strategic focus for our client covering a rough split of time between them
2. Mattison Public Relations would organise a series of kick-off meetings with subject matter experts. From those meetings we would propose activity that would populate a plan for the year ahead. That plan would follow the allocation of resources agreed in point 1. This would be the “core” programme
3. Implement agreed activity from point 2
4. Take advantage of ad-hoc opportunities, following the plan laid out in point 1 plus targets of opportunity, what we call “core plus”
5 Report, review and improve in coordination with the client

All our activity for clients goes through carefully considered and regularly reviewed processes. For the sake of brevity, we have included the process for one area of activity – quick comment press releases.

Example process – quick comments
  • Initial familiarisation process

This will involve meetings with the relevant spokespersons from our client to agree which topics and specific subjects they are interested in commenting on and what their “take” is on the main themes within their topic areas. The meetings will also be used to identify emerging trends that they would expect to see become more important within their markets.

  • Agree lists of topic areas to monitor for

From these meetings we will agree a list of topics and themes to monitor through the media. These will be grouped into Tier 1 and Tier 2 topics. Tier 1 being those topics that are more relevant and important to the teams at Karis Capital.

  • Monitoring for opportunities

Mattison Public Relations will monitor for comment opportunities in the media. This will be done both by monitoring the media and from other sources of news, e.g. regulators, Government departments.

  • Contacting the subject matter experts to alert them of opportunities

Mattison Public Relations will then send a quick alert to the subject matter experts with questions to prompt their response.

  • Agreeing quotes

It is anticipated that the quotes will often be drafted by the subject matter experts (as per the briefing call) however Mattison Public Relations would be pleased to also draft quick quotes based on short calls with them. This may help maximise coverage.

  • Distributing

MPR will maintain up-to-date distribution lists and will monitor how many journalists open and read emails (so as to feed back into future activity). MPR will also call through to journalists to check whether they are covering the relevant story and to alert them to the comments that are being sent through.

  • Following up – including setting up meetings

MPR will also set up meetings with the relevant journalists

  • Review progress and topic areas

MPR will regularly review progress, results and topic areas. That reviewing process will include collecting feedback from the client and their communications team.
