LOBBYING TO SUPPORT THE AIRLINE INDUSTRY

Lobbying to support the airline industry during COVID – a rapidly implemented campaign that created a very important financial impact

Pan-European PR Programme

Decisions made by the UK Government during the COVID outbreak over quarantine periods and testing regimes have had a profound impact on the airline industry and the broader travel industry. Too harsh a regime and the financial viability of some of the UK’s biggest companies would be put in jeopardy.

Our role was to implement a PR programme to promote the results of robust clinical research that supported a testing and quarantine regime that would allow a sensible re-opening of international travel to and from the UK.

Because of the economic cost of the lockdown on the travel industry we were required to act fast.

The scientific research was broken down into three parts, each stage was accompanied by a media relations campaign aimed at securing press coverage that might influence the UK Government.

The Daily Telegraph ran 12 stories based on the study, including two op-eds, whilst City AM wrote four stories based on the research. We also achieved high profile coverage in the Daily Mail and Independent, as well as a broad range of influential travel trade publications. The coverage helped shift policy towards a more pragmatic testing regime, creating a very positive financial impact for the airline industry.
